Advanced Spine Fusions
Fusion or disk replacement surgery
in the lumbar spinal region are among the most common
spinal operations. Advances in technology have made
these operations increasingly effective and have reduced
the time needed to recover from surgery.
Animation at right: After removing
most of the disk, the surgeon can spread open
the collapsed disk space and then place a graft. These
grafts sliced from a femur leg bone of a cadaver donor
and are machined to an optimum wedge shape. A
femoral ring allograft also allows for the placement
of bone fusion promoting proteins in the central space
of the ring graft.
